My process started with an online quick-math style assessment, then I had a motivational conversation with HR. After that, I went into an interview with a trader, and it was framed around the kind of trading strategy details that sounded very specific. I got the feeling the conversation was less about my general research process and more about whether I could speak to strategy mechanics.
There was also talk of a further team-oriented final step, but I never got past the trader portion. The trader round hit me harder than I expected—questions were demanding enough that I ended up failing that stage. Even when I reflected on how the process was described to me, it didn’t feel like a typical mentorship-style screening; it felt like a selective gate.

I first ran into a fairly timed mental-math and sequences style screen. After that, I had a one-way virtual interview where the structure stressed speed and composure: I got about 30 seconds to gather my thoughts and then had to give a single recorded response. It was a format that put pressure on how clean and well-structured my answer had to be in the moment.
Once the virtual step was done, the next interviews leaned into quick problem solving and confidence under constraints. There were also resume-style questions and some company-relevant curiosity checks, like what the company did and why I wanted the role. The hardest part wasn’t necessarily the math being impossible—it was how much you had to keep moving without getting much back-and-forth to recover if you didn’t land something quickly.
