After a recruiter call, I ended up in a panel interview with two hiring managers. The format felt structured: they discussed the role and then had me do a mock sale as part of the conversation. Both managers came across as very nice, and I walked away feeling like the mock went well—they told me I did great.

The part that stuck with me was the money and how it compared to what I’d earned before. I knew the pay was going to be far below my prior experience, but I was still curious about the change. Even though the feedback was positive, I never moved forward, and the whole thing felt like the classic disappearing act—no offer and no real closure. I kept following up with the recruiter multiple times, but I didn’t hear back, and it honestly made the process feel unprofessional given how much time I’d already put in.

My interview journey started out pretty standard. I went through behavioral questions and had a sense that the interview was mostly about how I’d acted in past situations. There were also a lot of questions that didn’t feel very relevant to the actual role, and the overall experience came across as a bit of a grind—like it was moving through its checklist rather than truly listening.

When I met with the hiring team, the overall tone was still professional enough, but they had a noticeable mix of “we’ll lay out expectations” and “tell us what you think of yourself.” I remember sitting in an environment where the process felt like office people were trying to assess a commission-only sales job they might not fully understand from the ground up. The hiring flow was also a little clunky: I ended up in a larger group interview with many other people, which made it feel inefficient.
