My first contact was a Zoom call with a recruiter. It was straightforward screening about what I knew about the company and what my career goals were. After that, I had a hiring manager conversation where the format was extremely direct: they asked about networking basics like what TCP and UDP are, then I had to describe a time I dealt with an angry customer.

The technical assessment was the part that took the most out of me. It covered a wide range of networking and systems topics—things like general command line/SQL basics, NAT, TLS/SSL, TCP/UDP, and the full OSI model layers. They also gave me real-world scenario style questions around debugging network issues such as latency problems, connecting to websites, and DNS. I ended up studying like I was preparing for a final exam because there were so many discrete areas they expected me to know, and the assessment had around 10 to 15 questions. I didn’t end up getting to an offer, and honestly it left me with the clear feeling that I was tested across a broad knowledge surface.
