I felt good throughout because the conversations matched what I’d already answered earlier, including knowledge of a very basic hands-on skill that they’d already probed.

That extra step didn’t change the result—eventually I was rejected, and the stated reason was that I wasn’t strong enough in that basic practical skill. What really bothered me was the timing and the logic: I’d demonstrated the same knowledge during the earlier rounds, and I’d applied for a senior position where the expectation felt inconsistent.
