I started with an online application, and it quickly turned into an automated-feeling online assessment before I even spoke to someone. After that, I had a recruiter-style phone interview where the focus was mostly practical logistics and my resume. The recruiter didn’t really get into deep technical probing—there was a lot of “what’s on your background” and logistics, and I remember feeling like the call was meant to confirm fit and timing more than evaluate engineering depth.
A bit later, I had a technical screen that felt more developer-led. I went through my resume with a few standard prompts and talked through a project I’d worked on, plus why I wanted to work at Epic. Overall, the early parts felt manageable, but the coding assessment that came afterward was harder than I expected—there were hours of timed work involved, and I didn’t hear back afterward.

Average Positive Madison, WI
The process I went through kicked off with a virtual interview followed by an online assessment that blended coding and math-style questions. After that, I got pulled into a more involved final round with a technical conversation, and it was paired with extra information sessions that felt like they were meant to set expectations about the role and life at Epic.
One thing that kept coming up was where I would live and how I felt about working in the Madison area. The technical part wasn’t hidden from the rest of the experience either; the assessment was clearly a major filter, and by the time I reached the later rounds, I could tell the company wanted both problem-solving ability and clear interest in the location.
