My process felt pretty standard and a bit hard to pin down as “eBay has a template.” I ended up doing three DSA rounds and then a system design round. The questions lined up with what I’d practiced—talk through approaches, then work through solutions—though the overall technical emphasis skewed more toward algorithms than the system-design framing I’d expected.
Before the loop started, I had a recruiter-style conversation where they checked whether my background fit the role. After that, I went into what I expected to be a coding-focused manager discussion, but instead the conversation turned into situational questions. By the end of that sequence, I was rejected, and I didn’t receive any meaningful feedback afterward.

Average Negative San Jose, CA
My journey started with a hiring manager interview, not a technical screen. The hiring manager had been with the company for a long time and had a background in native Android development, and the conversation quickly felt like it was judging my fit based on my past rather than probing what I could do now.
We spent most of the time walking through my work history, and I sensed low engagement. When the discussion got into A/B testing, there were misconceptions about how experimentation is typically owned by platform teams and how engineers consuming experimentation frameworks aren’t always expected to understand how the underlying system is built. I left feeling like the conversation was operating on assumptions about my background rather than evidence from technical demonstration, and for a senior role that was hard to reconcile.
