After a recruiter call, the process moved into a math and probability test. It was difficult enough that it didn’t feel like a formality. Then came an HR screen followed by multiple interviews across different teams, and the questions leaned heavily into probability and option intuition.
Early on, I was told that option theory was something they taught internally and wouldn’t necessarily be the center of the interview focus. That surprised me a bit, because later the interview shifted—suddenly I was grilled almost entirely on option theory in a separate interview segment. Interviewers were friendly throughout, but the mismatch between what I was told to expect and what I was actually evaluated on made the experience feel more stressful than it should have.

Easy Negative Hong Kong
I went through what started like an unusually strategic conversation and quickly felt like it wasn’t really a normal hiring process. The initial discussion was with the head of the business, and the focus wasn’t on my background or skills. Instead, I was interrogated about what the firm’s competitors were doing, where they were making money, and what ideas they might be using.
The tone made it clear the point was to understand the market by extracting competitor strategy, not to evaluate me as a quantitative analyst. Overall it felt “shady” and more like information gathering than an interview meant to lead to an offer. I left with the strong impression they weren’t actually interested in hiring someone into the role.
