Average Positive Germany

My technical interview experience centered on web and frontend fundamentals, and it included a live-coding moment with a small real-world frontend problem. The session was grounded in basic JavaScript concepts, and during the live coding I had to demonstrate that I understood how the pieces work rather than just spitting out an answer.

It turned out to be a tough match for me on the day—I didn’t pass—but it was still a great experience because I received detailed feedback afterward. A bit earlier, though, I’d also experienced how variable these technical rounds could feel: one interview asked me to work with outdated React patterns, writing and fixing an example with class and component-based structure, and the process felt weird and not representative of what I’d seen elsewhere. Another technical round had awful communication; the questions felt pre-planned and disconnected, and the coding part went straight to a difficult tree question.

I started with a recruiter reaching out via LinkedIn, which felt promising. When it came time to actually schedule the interview, it became a recurring problem: they kept rescheduling on their end, and it took a lot longer than I expected to land on a final time.

When I finally did meet the interviewer, I was surprised by how poorly the conversation flowed—communication felt lacking, which was unexpected given the company’s reputation. I still managed to move forward enough to get invited to the second round, but I had to request a reschedule because I came down with the flu. Instead of continuing, the company canceled the entire process, saying they had decided to pause hiring.
