My process leaned into the “deep” part of DeepMind. After a recruiter call, I moved into technical screens that weren’t purely about coding—they also probed comprehension and how I approached the problem. From there, I had technical coding interviews, a system design discussion, research-focused conversations, and then behavioral interviews.
The overall feel was rigorous and multi-stage, with collaboration and communication treated as part of the evaluation. I kept getting pulled into rounds that blended engineering thinking with research depth, and the questions seemed designed to reflect real-world impact rather than abstract trivia.

Difficult Neutral United States
I went through a pretty classic multi-stage DeepMind software engineer loop that felt rigorous the whole way. After an initial behavioral screening, I had a technical coding test. The last technical round was a deeper conversation with two people I’d potentially work with, and the pacing reminded me of a data structures oral exam—more dialogue than just solving one isolated problem.
The difficulty stayed high across rounds. I ended up doing multiple coding-style checks plus an architecture-style design conversation, and there was also behavioral content and a final chat with the hiring manager. Even though the process was structured into several stages, the actual interviews felt pleasant—friendly interviewers and a lot of room to discuss my thinking.
