This process stood out because it wasn’t the usual sequence. I had to submit an assignment first, and the next round focused mostly on that assignment—walking through it and discussing it in more depth.

The final conversation was with a VP, and it centered on Node architecture. Compared to earlier interviews I’d done elsewhere, the assignment-to-architecture progression made the interview feel more grounded in real engineering judgment, even though there was no offer at the end.

I joined DAZN through their DAZN HACKS TAIWAN campaign, which was specifically aimed at backend engineers for their Amsterdam office. The process felt unusually structured: I knew what each stage would look like before I did it, and after the interviews I got a quick response about where I stood.

The first step was a HackerRank-style assessment with several questions. I only managed to complete three out of five, but the hiring manager told me my score was still above average and invited me to the next stage within about 24 hours. After that came a phone screening where we talked through the company and their product and why they were sponsoring relocation to the Netherlands. The technical focus there was whether I had experience with microservices or serverless—at the time, I mentioned only limited work like setting up a Lambda function for automation, and the hiring manager said that was fine.
