I got pretty far into the process for this role: after initial screens and a HackerRank assessment, I was scheduled to do an in-person presentation. The timing was close enough that I could still prepare intensely, and I poured effort into building something I felt confident presenting.
Then a message hit late the day before the presentation saying the role was already filled and they didn’t need me to come in. It was a brutal kind of timing—like the decision was made, but I was still left holding the bag on all the preparation that week.

Difficult Negative São Paulo, São Paulo
I went through a fairly standard, multi-round Solutions Engineer flow that started with an English-language HR conversation. I answered the usual basics—who I was, whether I knew Datadog, and my salary expectations—before moving on to an online HackerRank test with several prompts around SQL, Linux, containers, APIs, and installing/setting up a Datadog agent.
After that, I met the hiring manager for behavioral questions with a bit of technical seasoning, then I progressed to very deep technical questioning with the SE team. The process felt intense enough that I walked out feeling like I’d put everything into it, but ultimately I didn’t make it through the technical stage.
