Easy Negative United States

My path to the offer was fast and very behavioral-focused. I had an interview with two managers in Portland that leaned almost entirely on questions about past projects and how I approach problems, not on deep technical exercises. After the interview, I was given an offer within about an hour, and the environment felt positive overall.

The offer itself came with constraints that were hard to square with what I expected to negotiate. My salary was non-negotiable, and there was a sign-on bonus, but when I asked about relocation specifically, I was told the sign-on bonus would effectively be used for relocation. It felt like those were being treated as separate things.

Difficult Neutral United States

The thing that defined my experience was how long the process felt and how uneven the communication was after applying. It could take weeks or even months before I heard anything back, and once an interview was requested, notice was often only about 24–48 hours.

When interviews did happen, they leaned heavily into behavioral questions. HR had selected many of them, and a lot of the prompts were tricky in the way they forced me to explain specific situations. The interviews were almost always with two people—typically the manager paired with a senior engineer—and after the fact I kept hearing the same theme in the room: that the process could feel dry.
