I felt like the technical part went well, especially the live coding challenge, but the recruiter experience heavily soured everything. Before I started any work, I asked the recruiter how many other candidates were still being considered. I never got a straight answer. After that, there was long silence, and I ended up waiting about a month without any feedback.
When I finally heard back, the message explained they’d already hired someone about two weeks before I even began the code challenge. That meant I was effectively still doing the home test after the decision had already been made. I found the whole sequence unprofessional, and it made the time I spent feel wasted. I ended up walking away with a pretty clear impression: the process might look active on your end, but the recruiter timing can tell a very different story.

After speaking with HR, I was asked to complete a take-home assessment and then schedule interviews based on the solution I submitted. In my case, I finished the take-home and sent my work the next day, expecting at least some follow-up conversation grounded in what I’d built.
Instead, I received a message saying the position had been filled, and I wasn’t given any meaningful feedback, commentary, or technical reasoning. Another time in the process I was told the assessment would take something like 30–45 minutes, but it ended up taking me a few hours as I pushed toward more production-ready tests and deeper coverage. I still showed up for the live Zoom conversation with a Staff Software Engineer, answered the follow-up questions quickly, and even reached solutions earlier than expected—only to be told they wouldn’t proceed without any feedback.
