Difficult Positive United States

I went through a sequence that looked pretty standard on paper—recruiter screen, then a technical screen that quickly moved into coding—but it ended up feeling harder than I expected in practice. The technical interviews were built around LeetCode-style problems, with a short behavioral portion mixed in before the two coding tasks. The difficulty felt like it could sit between “medium” and “medium-hard,” and I got tripped up by my own assumptions about how hard a problem was supposed to be.

In the coding rounds, I tried to optimize early, and that cost me time. When one of the questions ended up having an approach I could have executed, I still didn’t manage to finish writing it out within the time window. I also ran into a moment where the interviewer asked whether there was a further optimization path, and I wasn’t sure how much they were probing versus trying to confirm understanding.
