After a recruiter call, I had a live technical interview that mixed classic LeetCode-style problem solving with quantitative theory—specifically probability and statistics. Most of the coding portion felt manageable to me, around medium difficulty, and the pacing was intense enough that I had to stay focused on reasoning rather than just getting to an answer.
I had a similar sequence on a different attempt too: once I submitted my application, there was an assessment phase and then a technical round where I coded through problems comparable to medium-to-hard LeetCode. Even though the people running it were genuinely nice, the experience made it clear I still had a long way to go. Across both runs, I walked out feeling that the interviewers cared a lot about my approach under pressure, and I didn’t land where they wanted me to.

Difficult Negative Austria
The interview I went through felt almost entirely technical. I had questions spanning linear algebra and coding, and the session dug into a problem that sat right at the intersection of optimization and classical machine learning. What surprised me was how little time there was for anything personal—I didn’t get any real behavioral conversation about my personality or work history.
In another similar technical-first setup, I also saw the same pattern: a mix of quant brainteasers, statistics questions, and a coding component with medium-level dynamic programming. The phone screen and follow-up online screen were separated by a few days, but the theme stayed consistent—probability and stats were treated as core, and coding wasn’t an afterthought. Even though I got through parts of it, the difficulty level and the technical depth meant I didn’t make it to a later stage.
