Average Negative New York, NY

My process started with a recruiter-style handoff into multiple rounds with senior leadership. I first went through a screening-style step, then made it into a round with executive directors. That round mixed behavioral questions with technical ones, and the technical side leaned into credit and market trends. I also got pulled into networking with top leadership, including senior figures across the group.

The next exec director round felt more like a “vibe check.” I expected technical follow-ups, but it stayed mainly behavioral—focused on how I think, how I show up, and how I fit with the team. Overall, it didn’t feel hostile, just very leadership-heavy. I left with a clearer sense of what they were selecting for, even though the emphasis on technicals in the earlier stage made it feel a bit like they wanted crisp, structured answers rather than me talking freely.

Difficult Positive Canada

After a quick recruiter-style start, my interview moved fast into more finance-focused screening. One round was extremely short—about 15 minutes—where I got typical “why this kind of banking work” questions first, then moved into technical checks like NAV. I remember that the industry questions caught me off guard because they weren’t the only focus; the technical portion came immediately.

Later, I met with two investment banking analysts. The first part was the usual opening behavior flow—tell me about yourself and standard background prompts—but the second half turned into a set of sharper technical questions. I was asked about DCF caveats and had to think through accretion/dilution conceptually.
