I went into the interview expecting something more hands-on and role-aligned, but the questions ended up feeling disconnected from the job I applied for. The recruiter had framed it as a .NET live coding session, yet when the interview started it turned into a Q&A style set of prompts—mostly “define these terms” type questions. A chunk of what I was asked leaned toward front-end and databases, including topics like JavaScript and SQL, even though the description I saw was for a .NET engineer.

I didn’t feel like I was being evaluated on applying the concepts—more like being tested on terminology. When the format started to drift away from what I thought I’d be assessed on, it threw me off, and the experience overall didn’t feel worth the time I spent. I left the interview with a pretty clear impression that the process wasn’t targeting the skills I expected, and that’s probably why it went poorly for me.
