I had a relatively direct set of steps: a phone screen followed by an onsite with three rounds of engineer interviews, ending with a final conversation with experienced architects. The onsite itself felt collegial, and the people I met were amazing to talk with. The office environment also sounded genuinely fun, and the interviews highlighted impressive skill sets.

Even though it was a pleasant experience, I didn’t get the offer because I didn’t have enough direct web development experience. The other part of it that stuck with me was that even in conversations where people seemed friendly, there was still a clear gatekeeping decision based on specific experience.
