The recruiter reached out after I applied, and then I moved through a fairly quick sequence. I did three phone interviews with managers scheduled close together, then later a technical telephonic interview. After that, I went into an on-site visit with the expectation that I’d connect with a VP via a conference setup.

On the day, the coordination didn’t quite work out—the conference wasn’t configured properly, and the VP and I ended up waiting on each other, which forced them to reschedule. The technical part also gave me an uneasy moment: I answered something related to DHCP behavior, and the interviewer pushed back hard, insisting that my answer didn’t exist as stated and telling me not to make things up. I tried to stay composed and keep going rather than argue.

I started with a phone screen that went well, mostly focused on behavioral questions. After that, I got scheduled for a second round, and that’s where the experience fell apart. The interviewer was rude, and the call didn’t feel properly run—he was speaking in a way that made him hard to hear, and there were long pauses between questions. I also experienced what felt like an abrupt technical breakdown when the call disconnected.

What made it difficult wasn’t just the performance of the interviewer; it was the lack of clarity about what he wanted from me in the moment. I kept waiting for the next question to land clearly, but it never really did.
