I kicked things off with what was supposed to be a recruiter screen, but the scheduling itself felt off—an email asked me to reschedule just minutes after the start time. I adjusted, showed up when the meeting was confirmed, and then I never received anything that day. There was no follow-up, no explanation, and no update after I’d already put in the time to prepare.

Later, I ran into the same kind of silence after what seemed like genuine momentum. I’d worked through a process that stretched to nearly three weeks, and by the end the whole team went unresponsive. I kept emailing and never got feedback. I also had a sequence where conversations had gone well, I was moved forward to the product manager stage, and then nothing—multiple messages unanswered until I finally received a note that they were going with someone else.

My process felt fairly straightforward and fully online. After an initial recruiter screen, I moved into discussions focused on how I worked and whether I’d fit the company’s expectations and the team’s needs. The tone stayed pretty open, and a big part of the conversations was getting a sense of personality and work ethic rather than trying to catch me out.

The structure I experienced was a four-step flow: the early phone screenings handled by HR and a gatekeeper, then two additional rounds with the hiring manager and VP during on-site style meetings that were still part of the same coordinated journey. The final step was a presentation to the hiring manager where they could see how I framed my thinking.
