My process looked seamless at first: I did a take-home test, then spoke with the hiring manager, and then went through a virtual team panel during COVID. I was genuinely enjoying talking to the team members and felt good about the fit as the process wrapped up. I even received an offer, and that’s when my perception shifted.
After I got the offer, I tried to ask practical questions about compensation. When the recruiter explained that the compensation was already clear, I still asked whether they could increase salary or stock options. The recruiter later told me they decided to move forward with someone else instead. It felt jarring because I had the impression that asking questions during offer discussions wouldn’t derail anything.

I started with a recruiter reaching out after I applied online, and the early steps moved quickly. I had a casual phone screen where we talked through why I wanted Blend, then I was scheduled for another phone screen with a support engineering manager that focused on learning more about the role and how the company worked. That call included a troubleshooting-style question, and it felt straightforward.
Later I went onsite and met with multiple team members—around five people—who were all friendly and easy to talk to. The atmosphere made it feel like a real conversation rather than a high-pressure interrogation. In my case, I received an offer very quickly after the onsite.
