I went through an unusual path that felt like it was purely technical—there wasn’t an HR interview, just interviews focused on coding and concepts. The interviewer came across as sharp and very casual, but the interaction got awkward quickly.
During a question about string manipulation, I described an approach where I’d normalize characters, build a string, and then use a hash idea to check whether two strings were anagrams. Right when I said the word “hash,” the interviewer pushed back hard with a question about what I meant by it. I explained how hashing works and how it functions in Java, and then the conversation went strangely quiet.

I went through an interview with a software engineer from the Aladdin Engineering team. He started by introducing himself and the team, then asked me to introduce myself too. From there, the interview turned into a friendly back-and-forth where we covered a set of seven questions total: the first five were behavioral, and the last two were scenario questions.
The interviewer was genuinely nice and made it feel conversational. When I answered, he followed up with a few simple questions to understand my reasoning, not just to check whether I had the “right” answer. Overall it felt like talking with a friend more than like an interrogation.
