Difficult Positive Bristol, England

My interview started with a series of non-technical questions, and then it shifted into a systems engineering exercise. The exercise was to build a flow chart of functions for a coffee machine, and it was surprisingly specific about how I distinguished between user functions and system functions.

I remember the prompt being clear enough to work from, but the distinction between categories mattered a lot. I had to map out functions in a way that made sense structurally, not just list ideas.

Average Positive Mississauga, ON

I started with an HR screening where I talked through my profile and the transferable skills I’d bring to the role. A short time after that, I moved into a more formal technical conversation held at Atkins’ headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario. The panel included two department heads from Control Engineering along with a recruiter.

The technical part felt like they were trying to gauge how I think through engineering problems, and the overall tone was professional from the start. It wasn’t hostile or overly intense—just focused. I left feeling like the structure of the round made it clear what they cared about, and I felt reasonably prepared going in since I’d done my homework on the role and could explain my background clearly.
