I started with a short first conversation that felt more like a vibe check than a deep evaluation. It lasted about 30 minutes, and it was clearly meant to see whether I matched what they were looking for.
A short time later I was invited into the second stage, which ended up being more intense: three sessions in total. I had a values-focused interview, a technical interview, and then a presentation. The values part took a lot of preparation on my end, but I didn’t feel like it produced much signal compared to how much time it consumed. The technical portion felt like the one to really sink time into, since that’s where I spent most of my effort and where it felt most consequential.

Average Neutral United States
My process started with the kind of multi-round structure AstraZeneca seems to run a lot. First I did a video assessment, then I moved into HR and later into a technical and cultural track. The last portion ended up being scheduled as a single day, with the remaining interviews stacked together.
By the time I reached the culture-related parts, the format was very intentional: there was a prompt where I had to choose questions aligned to the company’s culture. The technical and behavioral elements leaned on my fit and my ability to talk through my experience clearly. In separate conversations, I covered the basics they always seem to ask—my background, how I work day to day, what challenges I’d handled, and how I see myself in a five-year window—as well as strengths and weaknesses. I also noticed that the hiring team was looking for specific skills that weren’t explicitly spelled out in the original posting, so I had to map my experience directly to what they cared about.

Technical Assessment
A technical interview is a core component of the process, often including a presentation of past research or projects followed by detailed questions. Candidates noted that this segment is crucial for demonstrating relevant skills and knowledge, and it is where they felt they needed to invest the most preparation.
Later stages often involve panel-style interviews with multiple team members, where candidates are expected to engage in in-depth discussions about their research and how it aligns with the team's work. This format allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of the candidate's fit and capabilities.
