What is a Project Manager at Astranis?
A Project Manager—often designated as a Senior Technical Project Manager or Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM)—at Astranis occupies a critical position at the intersection of cutting-edge aerospace engineering and aggressive operational execution. Unlike traditional software-focused program managers, project managers here are deeply embedded in hardware development, assembly, integration, and testing. You will lead cross-functional engineering teams to design, build, test, and launch micro-geostationary (MicroGEO) satellites that deliver affordable, high-speed internet to underserved regions worldwide.
The impact of this role is immediate and high-stakes. At Astranis, you are responsible for keeping complex aerospace programs on track, whether you are managing the entire Gen-1 Spacecraft program, driving Program Operations & Integration, or leading subsystem execution across Propulsion, Mechanical, and Thermal Engineering. Because space hardware leaves no room for error once launched, your ability to manage risk, resolve technical bottlenecks, and maintain schedule alignment directly determines the success of the spacecraft.
This role requires a rare blend of deep technical literacy and exceptional leadership. You will not simply track tasks on a timeline; you will actively participate in design reviews, understand complex engineering trade-offs, and facilitate critical decisions when technical requirements clash with schedule constraints. It is an inspiring, fast-paced environment where your work directly translates to physical hardware being integrated, tested, and launched into orbit.
