My recruiter call went smoothly and felt easygoing. They asked what I knew about the company and what they were doing, and the hiring manager followed up by digging into my background and why I thought I was a fit. I felt like the discussion was going well until the tone shifted.

After that, the interview moved into machine and systems questions tied to how the machines compound their work. I was honest about not having that specific hands-on experience. Once they realized that gap, they asked very specific questions about the machines and details that weren’t really something I could rely on from general research. The more I couldn’t connect the way they expected, the more it felt like the questions became less forgiving, and I left with a strong sense that I didn’t know enough for the expectations of the role.
