Difficult Neutral United States

I applied online for a quantitative researcher and developer role and got a very quick reply. After that recruiter phone screen, I got pulled into a round that focused on my background—pretty straightforward, just oriented around what I’d done before.

Next came the part that felt most concrete to evaluate me: a coding and math test. It was the first time the process really shifted from getting to know me into seeing how I performed under problem-solving constraints. Overall, the process felt fairly prompt and structured, even though it didn’t end with an offer.

My impression going into the process was that the technical part wasn’t really enough to carry the evaluation. The recruiting side cared a lot about where I’d gone to school, and the emphasis felt disconnected from the actual technical work. I didn’t get an offer, and what stayed with me most was how strongly the process leaned toward pedigree rather than the strength of my technical abilities.
