My first step was an online Excel test that caught me off guard because there wasn’t much guidance beforehand about what to expect. I was on a screen share with a person running the test, and I had to follow along with what she was supposed to press while also typing responses as part of the task. It felt a little strange and unnatural because the interaction was so hands-on, and it didn’t resemble a typical “take-home” style evaluation.
The whole experience was short but oddly disorienting, since I couldn’t lean on any prep materials or familiar instructions. I didn’t get an offer afterward, and the main thing I took from it was that the process was testing more than just Excel knowledge—it was also measuring how I performed when the instructions were unclear and the format was very interactive.
