I went through a fairly structured loop that felt very Amazon: it started with an SDE-1 style process with multiple rounds focused on both coding and Leadership Principles, and it ended the same day I did the interviews. The loop had four rounds total—three in-person rounds plus one virtual BR-style round—and the whole thing centered on staying crisp under a mix of behavioral follow-ups and technical problem-solving.
In my first round, I got both a leadership prompt and a coding/task component. The leadership discussion dug into a specific past experience and then pushed for tighter examples and clearer ownership. Later rounds kept that pattern going: I had to reason through the main technical prompt, clarify my approach when questions got ambiguous, and handle follow-ups that forced me to explain my thinking rather than just produce an answer.

I did an online assessment, got confirmation it was submitted, and then spent a long stretch waiting with basically no signal. The assessment I took included two parts: a DSA coding problem and a separate development-focused task. I passed all the test cases on the DSA side, and I also scored very well on the other part—finishing 5 out of 6 test cases for the development task.
After that, the timeline felt painfully slow. I checked the portal status and it stayed stuck on “under consideration,” and it took about a month before I got the kind of silence that stops feeling normal. There were no interviews scheduled and no clear explanation—just waiting.

What to expect
Distilled from the reports
The Loop & Timeline
The interview process typically includes an online assessment followed by a structured loop of multiple rounds, often consisting of coding, behavioral, and system design interviews. Candidates report varying timelines, with some experiencing long waits for feedback after the online assessment.

Technical / Coding Screen
Candidates can expect a mix of algorithmic coding questions and practical debugging tasks, often in a LeetCode-style format. The emphasis is on strong data structure knowledge and problem-solving under time constraints, with some interviews incorporating AI-assisted coding environments.

Behavioral & Leadership Principles
Behavioral questions are heavily integrated throughout the process, focusing on Amazon's Leadership Principles. Candidates are expected to provide specific examples from their past experiences using a STAR format and demonstrate how their decisions align with these principles.

System / Design Interviews
Some candidates will face system design interviews that assess their understanding of design principles and ability to articulate trade-offs in their decisions. These rounds may vary in depth but are a critical part of the evaluation process.

Difficulty & Pressure
The overall difficulty of the interview process is often described as moderate to hard, with candidates feeling significant pressure to perform well under tight time constraints. The combination of technical and behavioral assessments can create a high-stress environment.

What Candidates Wish They'd Done
Many candidates reflect on the importance of clear communication and thorough preparation for both technical and behavioral components. Some express regret over not practicing enough under timed conditions or not fully understanding the expectations around leadership principles.
