Difficult Positive France

After a recruiter call, I ended up with just one coding interview. The recruiter conversation was pretty standard—things like telling me about myself and what I did in my last company. The coding round was the main event: I had to build out features either on a React front end or on the API/back-end side, depending on the track I was given. Overall it felt more like feature development than pure algorithm-only coding, and it was difficult mainly because I had to think in terms of implementing functionality end to end rather than just solving a single puzzle.

The interview journey I experienced was a fairly structured multi-round loop. It was four rounds total over two days, with two interviews each day. The technical content was split into the usual Amazon-style buckets: data structures and algorithms, plus a low-level design round, and then system design. The way it felt going through it was straightforward and direct—questions were clear enough that I could focus on execution rather than guessing what they wanted.

In the coding-heavy parts, I was asked DSA-style problems with a mix of standard technique questions. One round asked an easy heap-style problem about combining heavy items and accounting for cost, and another round involved a word-ladder style problem where I not only needed to get to the transformation but also print the actual path via the follow-up. At the same time, leadership principles and behavioral prompts were present, so the process didn’t feel like it was only testing my coding—object-level tuning and resume context mattered too.

What to expect

Distilled from the reports

Interview Structure & Timeline

The interview process typically consists of an online assessment followed by a multi-round technical loop, often involving back-to-back interviews over one or two days. Candidates should expect a mix of coding, design, and behavioral questions throughout the process.

Coding & Technical Rounds

Candidates will face a variety of coding challenges, including data structures and algorithms (DSA) problems, low-level design, and system design tasks. It's important to prepare for both LeetCode-style questions and practical coding tasks that require end-to-end feature implementation.

Behavioral & Leadership Principles

Behavioral questions are integrated into the interview process, often focusing on Amazon's leadership principles. Candidates should be ready to use the STAR method to articulate their experiences and demonstrate alignment with company values.

Assessment Difficulty & Time Pressure

Candidates report a high level of difficulty during both the online assessments and live coding rounds, often feeling time-constrained. It's crucial to practice managing time effectively while solving complex problems under pressure.
