Right away, my process felt oddly off. The recruiter screen started with her showing up without her camera on, and even though I kept mine active, the interaction felt more like she was scanning my answers than engaging with me. She acknowledged that the invite didn’t mention camera-off, but said she’d take notes off camera to stay focused.
At first, the call followed the usual recruiter flow: walking through my professional history, what had me looking around, and what I understood about the product. Then she dropped into a question about troubleshooting a webpage—something that wasn’t mentioned in what I’d been told to expect. The prompt didn’t come with concrete details, so when I asked for specifics about what was wrong with the page and what expected vs. actual behavior looked like, she basically shut down the conversation by refusing to provide more context.

Average Positive Paris
I went through a pretty structured sequence that started with a recruiter screening call, then moved to a hiring manager conversation. From there, I had two live coding rounds (each about an hour), followed by a system design interview, and then a separate teamworking/leadership-style discussion. The pacing felt intentional, and the interviewers were consistently kind and communicative, with feedback that came quickly after each step.
I actually wasn’t thrilled about live coding in general, but in my case it felt targeted. The questions were more about how I reasoned while coding and how I handled trade-offs than about recalling obscure algorithm tricks. My only real snag was the tooling: the setup used a browser-based environment that didn’t let me write tests. It made me rely on pseudo-testing in my approach instead of doing the kind of test scaffolding I’m used to, which was slightly annoying during the process.
