I started with an online assessment where the questions felt close to what Airtable actually works on. After submitting, I moved into a follow-up coding round that again centered on data structures and algorithms, but in a way that was framed more like a real-world task than pure LeetCode. The time limits and scoring varied, but the vibe stayed the same: code cleanly, handle edge cases, and make it work end to end.
I then got scheduled for another stage, and that’s where the process stopped for me. In my case, I reached the system-design style portion and didn’t land it well, even though the technical conversation earlier felt solid. The interviews overall were pretty structured, and when I was doing well in a technical sense, it still came down to whether I could get through the harder rounds—especially anything that resembled designing or extending a real Airtable feature. I ended without an offer, and honestly the most frustrating part was how quickly the difficulty ramped once I cleared the initial OA.

Difficult Positive San Francisco, CA
My first real step was a recruiter and phone screen combo, and the recruiter communication was genuinely responsive and easy to follow. The phone interview itself was conversational, with follow-ups that felt like they were trying to understand how I thought rather than just see if I could recite a pattern.
The topic was tied to an Airtable spreadsheet-style feature, and the recruiter had already warned me it wouldn’t be LeetCode in the usual sense—it was more like a real workflow problem. Even with that clarity, I only made it so far: I got through the screen in one path, but didn’t move on because of how the role fit looked from their side, while in another path the timeline felt a bit rushed and I was notified I wasn’t moving forward right before the next round.

What to expect
Distilled from the reports
Recruiter & Initial Screening
The interview process typically begins with a recruiter call that may feel scripted and quota-driven, followed by a technical phone screen that focuses on real-world scenarios rather than traditional coding problems. Candidates noted varying levels of responsiveness and clarity from recruiters, impacting their overall experience.

Online Assessment & Take-Home Assignments
Candidates often complete an online assessment or a take-home assignment, which can be time-consuming and may not align with expectations set by the recruiter. Some candidates reported spending significantly more time than anticipated on these tasks without receiving adequate feedback.
The technical interviews include live coding sessions that emphasize real-world problem-solving and product-specific thinking, rather than traditional algorithmic challenges. Candidates are expected to explain their thought processes and handle edge cases, with varying levels of interviewer engagement.

System Design & Product-Oriented Questions
Candidates face system design interviews that often focus on extending or designing features relevant to Airtable, requiring a solid understanding of product requirements and design trade-offs. The clarity of prompts can vary, leading to confusion during the interviews.

Behavioral & Cultural Fit Interviews
Behavioral interviews are included in the process, often framed around cultural fit and past experiences, but the depth and engagement of these conversations can vary significantly. Candidates noted that these rounds are crucial for assessing overall fit with the team.
