I went through a more technical-leaning path than I expected for an analyst role. After the recruiter conversation, I had a technical screen where the questions mixed practical problem-solving with behavioral prompts, and it felt like they were probing whether I could handle the kinds of work an analyst actually touches.
The technical part included some math and programming, and there were also actuary-specific elements that caught me by surprise. Even for an analyst position, I was asked topics that felt like they’d usually be learned later in a dedicated track, not something you’d casually know as a general graduate. Alongside that, the interviewers asked about accounting knowledge and pulled from my experience—then wrapped back into the usual questions about teamwork and how I operate.

This process was derailed almost immediately by scheduling and communication problems. I received a phone interview invitation very early on a Saturday morning, which felt unusual, and I confirmed my availability within about half an hour for the following Thursday.
After that, there was no follow-up, so I ended up reaching out proactively on Tuesday to confirm the interview. On Thursday, I was ready and waiting, but the call never came. Ten minutes after the scheduled time, I got an email saying my phone wasn’t active and asking what number to call, so I responded right away with my number and even tested my line by calling someone else to verify it worked. I also tried calling the HR rep’s number, and it connected normally, but I still didn’t get any response when I asked to proceed.
