I went through a pretty brutal, five-round loop for a Senior Frontend Engineer role. After the recruiter stage, I ended up doing four separate technical interviews followed by a director round. The whole sequence felt like it was designed to keep moving forward no matter what, and it never really slowed down or gave me any sense of calibration along the way.

By the end, I was ultimately rejected without any feedback. That lack of follow-up was the part that lingered. Finishing four technical conversations plus a director interview only to receive no signal on what landed well versus what didn’t left me feeling like the process had consumed a lot of time and energy for no real closure.

I started with a short recruiter chat, but right after that the process basically jumped straight into a HackerRank test to filter me out. What stood out immediately was how little the interviewer seemed to actually engage—there wasn’t much of an intro, and the session felt oddly scripted and disconnected, like they were reading from one screen to another.

During the test, the whole experience felt ironic to me because I couldn’t really demonstrate frontend expertise, and the questions leaned into abstract algorithm memorization rather than building software as I understand it. When the interview wrapped, it also felt like I couldn’t even have a normal conversation—the responses to my straightforward questions about the role were almost impossible to understand. The recruiter experience left me unsure what the process was truly evaluating, and I ultimately didn’t move forward.
