Lafayette, LAPosted Feb 2019 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed for a software engineering internship, but what surprised me was how much they wanted an electrical engineering background instead of pure software.

The role expectations leaned toward understanding message protocols and using the kinds of tools electrical engineers typically rely on.

The process itself felt fairly straightforward: the questions circled around that overlap—how familiar I was with protocols and toolchains—and whether my background mapped well to what they needed. It didn’t feel like a generic software interview, more like they were screening for specific domain fluency.

In the end, I didn’t get the internship, and I walked away recognizing that my experience was being evaluated through a very electrical-engineering lens
