I had a multi-step process where coding and design/system rounds came after a home exam, but ultimately I didn’t end up with a clear, timely offer.

Home exam — I built a REST API with search filters under a time limit.
Technical interview + system design — after passing the test, I was invited into technical evaluation and a system design conversation.
Final HR / close-out — in another similar experience, I completed several technical rounds and then an HR conversation, after which I was told I’d need a final manager meeting. Outcome: I didn’t receive an offer; the takeaway is that later-stage confirmation and responsiveness can be decisive even after strong technical performance.
