I went into the interview expecting it to be a normal start, but it quickly took a dark turn.

The interviewer began in a casual way—asked for my first name—then immediately made an assumption about my last name. When I corrected it, she seemed to shift gears right away.

Before we really got anywhere in terms of discussing the role or my experience, she told me the job wasn’t suitable for me. What stood out most was that she acted like they were only ready to hire people of a specific background, and when she realized that didn’t match me, she effectively rejected me on the spot.

It was brief, but the difficulty didn’t come from questions—it came from the way the decision was made
