I interviewed through my school’s career center, and the format stood out because two current engineers were involved and I had to write out answers while they asked questions.

They were friendly, but I could tell they were pushing for detail. I’d answer, then they’d follow up repeatedly to dig into specifics behind what I’d said.

The process itself felt like it required precision: being careful with explanations and not just giving surface-level answers. Even though the engineers were approachable, the volume of follow-up questions meant I couldn’t coast on my initial responses.

I didn’t end up with an offer. Looking back, the biggest thing I’d take from it was that the interviewers weren’t only evaluating the final answer—they were evaluating the thought process
