I had a single, backend-leaning technical interview over video that felt deep on Java and distributed-systems concepts, without any coding exercise.

Technical interview (video, one round) — scenario-based questions covering Java fundamentals and JVM internals, plus data structures; it also delved into Kafka, caching, and general distributed systems concepts, with follow-ups to test real-world depth. Outcome: I didn’t get an offer; the takeaway was that I needed stronger applied knowledge across Java/JVM internals and distributed-system components rather than algorithmic puzzles.
