Upstart Software Engineer interview experience

After an initial phone screen plus two technical screening rounds, I ended up doing a virtual onsite that ran through six separate conversations: four technical rounds, then product design and behavioral, and finally a hiring-manager session that was tied back to my resume.

The recruiter called the day after the onsite with feedback that sounded positive from the interviewing committee. For a bit, it felt like momentum was on my side. Then, a couple of weeks later, a different recruiter reached out to say they weren’t going to extend an offer but also weren’t rejecting me with a clear “no.”
