My process started with a phone interview.

It wasn’t the whole story though—the call was followed by a face-to-face meeting with the grant manager, which made the experience feel more official than a typical informal lab chat.

The final step was a writing sample submission, so even after the in-person discussion, they still wanted an artifact to evaluate. By the time I finished the writing piece, the process felt complete and deliberate, like they were looking for both how I spoke and how I could produce written work.
