My interview felt hopeless mainly because the technical discussion went off in a way that didn’t match how I answered.

I was asked how the main thread could terminate a child thread gracefully.

I gave an answer in terms of signaling the child thread to stop executing—basically communicating to the child thread to shut down through some mechanism like an exception or queue-based approach. Then the interviewer pressed me for the easiest way, and I couldn’t land on what he wanted because my answer felt too generic for his expectations.

When I realized what he was looking for—more like a global shared variable between parent and child—I felt the mismatch and stopped having confidence in the interaction.
