My HR phone screen was memorable mostly for an odd distraction.

The recruiter kept trying to show off their Mandarin, including attempts at greeting-style words in a playful accent.

It felt strange to me because the purpose of an HR screen is usually to understand my background and motivations, not to perform language flair. Still, the rest of the conversation stayed part of a typical early-stage format.

I didn’t receive an offer. The whole thing ended up feeling slightly unprofessional to me just because the tone shifted away from what I expected from an HR conversation.
