I was basically brought in through the professor’s recruiting process, and the “interview” didn’t really feel like an interview.

Most of it was just conversations around whether I was interested in specific research areas and getting to know the lab’s work. The focus was clearly on alignment, not on grilling me for details, and I remember thinking the whole setup was more about introduction than evaluation.

To my surprise, I wasn’t asked to answer technical questions or go deep on research plans. It felt like the professors were trying to recruit students, and nobody was rejected during that stage. Overall it was very easy—low pressure, mostly friendly discussion, and centered on interest rather than proof.
