Uber Software Engineer interview experience

Posted May 2026 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

My process started with a HackerRank online assessment that had been updated to include an AI assistant feature.

The assistant only clarified the question and helped with understanding the test cases, but it didn’t generate code. That single change shaped the whole experience—communication felt more “interpretation” than “help.”

The interview journey details after the OA weren’t captured for me, but that HackerRank format change was the key thing that stuck. It was a clear reminder that the evaluation was still very much about my own problem solving rather than delegating work to the assistant.
