I started by emailing a PI directly, and then I went through a recruitment process that included an interview by committee members.

After the committee met to interview me, they discussed everything internally to arrive at the final decision.

It didn’t feel like I was dealing with a long sequence of separate meetings, but the committee discussion step mattered a lot because the final call wasn’t made immediately.

The whole experience felt procedural and centralized around the PI’s initial contact plus the committee’s deliberation afterward.
