I applied and then waited a few months, but eventually I got an email inviting me to a video call.

That first call was mostly basic logistics plus questions about my experience with different programming languages. The recruiter I spoke with was nice and enthusiastic, and they answered my questions about the role in a way that made it feel like they were genuinely interested.

A day later, another recruiter reached out to schedule a second round. That round included a senior and a principal engineer, and it was done through a company in the Realtor.com network in Chicago. Interestingly, it didn’t feel like a traditional technical evaluation—there was no leetcode-style coding focus.
