I applied for the business analyst role, and early on HR told me there were two positions in play—business analyst and product owner—so they would interview for both.

I explained that my expertise was in business analysis, and that’s where I felt strongest.

They still ran four rounds of interviews and even included an assignment. After all of that time, they later told me I wouldn’t be a good fit for the product owner track, even though I had clearly mentioned I didn’t have that kind of certificate experience.

What lingered with me was the amount of time that got spent. It felt like my initial clarification didn’t change the scope of what they put me through, and I walked away frustrated that it took so long to reach that conclusion.
