I applied and then went through a fairly light, early-stage screen that focused on whether I had the fundamentals.

I first filled out a security clearance pre-screening form, then a few days later I was scheduled for an hour-long phone conversation with a recruiter and two software developers. They mostly asked me to describe my resume and past projects, but they also threw in a mix of interests and some basic technical checks.

What surprised me was that there wasn’t any code debugging or a full-on programming exercise. The technical portion was more about confirming I understood core computer science concepts: general OOP ideas and how to think about data structures and software engineering basics.
