My early phone interview felt difficult and unfriendly: it was heavy coding over the phone, with a confusing communication dynamic that made the questions harder.

Phone interview (HR → DS intro) — HR connected me to another data scientist; the call lasted about 45 minutes, but a significant portion was spent struggling with communication.
Complicated coding questions (spoken-only) — I was asked fairly complex coding questions and expected to speak solutions over the phone; when I asked about motivation to work there, the response was narrow. Outcome: I didn’t progress, and the takeaway was that clarity and interview experience quality mattered as much as the technical difficulty.
